Advocare The Orthopedic Center provides pediatric and adolescent patients with the highest quality of care for sports injuries and problems related to the spine, bones, joints and muscles including fractures, scoliosis, hip dysplasia and clubfoot. The practice uses the most innovative, non-operative, minimally-invasive and arthroscopic surgical techniques available.
Using Cutting-Edge Technology
One of the largest pediatric and adolescent orthopedic practices in the tri-state area, ATOC is affiliated with New York University Medical Center so its doctors can care for children locally at Morristown, Saint Barnabas and Overlook Medical Centers while taking advantage of NYU’s state-of-the-art resources.
“We offer the resources of a world-class care center while still continuing our relationship with our patients and remaining their physician,” says Dr. Mark Rieger, whose expertise lies in musculoskeletal disorders including scoliosis, sports injuries and fractures.
ATOC is the only practice in the state to have the EOS imaging system, an X-ray that creates 3-D images of the spine and lower extremities using 10 to 30 times less radiation.
Making a Difference
The doctors achieve the best possible outcome with the least amount of surgical intervention. Dr. Joshua Strassberg specializes in pediatric and adolescent trauma, sports injuries and hip disorders. “I enjoy having the opportunity to relate to kids and make them feel at ease,” he says.
An expert in the field of pediatric sports medicine, Dr. David Lin has a special interest in fracture/trauma care. “It’s exciting to work with children—they keep me young at heart, and I love their resilience,” he says.
“Returning kids to their optimal level of health—and knowing we’ve made a difference in their lives—is the most rewarding thing about what we do,” Dr. Rieger says.
Dr. Bloom is accurate with a great bedside manner. We’re at ease at all appointments.
Dr. Friedman was great with my son when he broke his wrist for the third time in five years. She explained everything to him and answered all of his questions.
~Erica, South Orange
Dr. Friedman is gentle and caring. She takes the time to explain everything involved in the process of surgery and recovery. She’s extremely professional and knowledgeable with a great staff.

Dr. Solomon is really good with special needs children. Excellent in keeping them calm and engaged.
~Marlyn, Florham Park
Dr. Strassberg is exceptional in working with his patients. He has dealt with our sons, from minor sprains, breaks and bone bruises, to surgical repairs. His bedside manner calms both patient and parent while helping to educate and inform on both simple and complex issues.
Dr. Strassberg is very methodical, has a great bedside manner, listens and will take time to answer any and all questions. My daughter felt very comfortable with him. She had an ACL tear and he did an excellent job in surgery, her scar is so much smaller than almost any other ACL scar we’ve seen.
Dr. Strassberg set my son’s wrist when he broke it for the second time. He was very compassionate and calm – he explained everything to both of us and allayed my fears.
~Erica, South Orange
Dr. Strassberg made my daughter’s bilateral osteotomy sound like a piece of cake. From her surgery, to recovery to present it’s been an amazing, successful and happy journey. Her hips are fine and she is back to normal with minor scars. Dr. Strassberg has a great bedside manner and is very kind!
Dr. Rieger is so thorough, so informative, so fun and makes kids and parents feel so at ease in his care.
~Laura, Cedar Grove
Dr. Rieger is a great pediatric surgeon. He cares about all his patients and is so good with the kids.
Dr. Rieger is genuinely concerned about the care of the patient and making the parents feel at ease. He is funny and both of my children liked the care we received from him. He did my daughter’s shoulder surgery and he kept us informed from beginning to end. I would recommend him to anyone with a kid who plays sports.
Dr. Lin always has a smile on his face. He’s always nice, kind and caring. Always does the best that he can to make his patients feel comfortable and to heal 100%. He is an exceptional doctor and I recommend him 100%.
Dr. Lin has treated my children over the past nine years for everything from broken elbows, wrists, fingers, and most recently for Plica Band surgery on my daughter. His bedside manner is amazing and he is so reassuring. He explains everything in a way the children can understand, and he demonstrates everything he is going to do before he does it so the kids are at ease the entire time. He is thorough in his exams and gives all the options and scenarios when setting the course of treatment. We have never felt rushed during our appointments. Dr. Lin genuinely cares for each and every patient.
