Where to Pick-Your-Own Cherries in New Jersey

Some farms were affected by the deep freeze in April, but you can still visit their country markets

Cherries are perfect for an afternoon snack or a sweet summer pie, and New Jersey farms are getting ready for pick-your-own season. But after high temperatures followed by an April frost, some farms may have limited crops, or no cherry picking at all this year. Be sure to call ahead or check the farm’s website for availability, weather updates, hours, fees and ticket information before you go. Even if cherries are limited, you can still support local farmers by visiting their markets for other fruits, baked goods and seasonal products. Here’s where to go in NJ.

Gloucester

Mood’s Farm Market

901 Bridgeton Pike, Mullica Hill
856-478-2500

PYO for sweet cherries is around the middle of June while pie cherries appear for a week during the end of the month. Mood’s is celebrating National Donut Day on Friday, June 5, so grab one of their apple cider donuts from inside the market; and there will be a farm-wide yard sale on Saturday, June 6.

Rowand’s Farm

295 Greentree Rd, Glassboro
856-589-9234
The Bing, Rainier and pie cherries won’t be back in season here until 2027.

Fruitwood Orchards Honey Farm

419 Elk Rd., Monroeville
856-881-7748
For those of you with a sweet tooth, Fruitwood Orchards is known for its local honey production. Aside from cherries, apple butter, black strap molasses and maple syrup are their jam.

Hunterdon

Bonacorsi Family Farm
662 Pittstown Rd., Frenchtown
Hurry on over to the farm because only a small crop of sour cherries and strawberries are available for picking, plus raspberries. The farm is currently open, but has limited hours.

LEE TURKEY FARM

Mercer

Lee Turkey Farm

201 Hickory Corner Rd., East Windsor
609-448-0629
Currently rebranding as Hickory Corner Farm, the 54 acres tended to by the seventh-generation family normally has sweet red or sour cherries, strawberries, mixed lettuce, broccoli, shelling peas and sugar snap peas – but most of the fruit crop was destroyed this spring. Soon you may be able to pick green beans, cucumbers and zucchini. The turkey production ceased as well.

Terhune Orchards

330 Cold Soil Road, Princeton
609-924-2310

Enjoy more than just cherries, which can be picked mid-June (along with blueberries, blackberries, peaches and flowers). The Strawberry Festival is coming up on June 6 and 7, too.

Monmouth

Battleview Orchards

91 Wemrock Rd., Freehold
732-462-0756

PYO usually lasts for a week-and-a-half mid-June, but Battleview lost its entire crop this year. You’ll find delicious baked goods such as breads, muffins, scones, cookies, pies, and their famous apple cider donuts, at the Country Store.

Morris

Wightman Farms

1111 Mt. Kemble Ave., Morristown
973-425-9819
PYO has not started yet, but rhubarb and lettuce is being harvested twice a day, and strawberries are picked daily for the market. It seems like the peach crop was not affected by the cold weather, and will be growing soon.

Warren

Stoneyfield Orchard

5 Orchard St., Belvidere
908-475-5209

Head over to this family-owned orchard for sour cherries in June and July. Don’t forget to check out the Farm Store where you can purchase pears, tomatoes, squash and more!
