You don’t need to worry about this well-known spot running out of the kids’ favorite donut – these sweets are 100 percent made-to-order. The menu has everything from standard glaze to Jersey pride faves like the Belmar Bliss (blueberry glaze, powdered sugar), the Long Branch (pineapple glaze, toasted coconut) and the kid-friendly Boardwalk (vanilla glaze, rainbow sprinkles). Or go for one of the decadent numbers on the Triple Layer menu, like the Cotton Candy or the Tie Dye. Better yet, get something off the A Little Extra section: the Fair Haven (vanilla glaze, Heath bars, almonds and caramel), the West Park (chocolate glaze and a huge heap of Bavarian cream) or the All American (a sweet twist on a PB&J with black raspberry preserves). The Broad Street menu has it all, including options for vegans and gluten-free eaters. The shop even designs custom donuts for birthdays, weddings and other events.

Duck Donuts

Multiple Locations
@duckdonuts

There are a dozen locations in New Jersey, hundreds in the U.S. and even more internationally – so this must be a donut lover’s dream. Fan Favorites are the bacon in the sun, blueberry lemonade, chocolate explosion and pina colada. If you want to make your own donut, their secret is their signature vanilla cake donut made while you wait. Add a coating of cinnamon sugar, peanut butter or maple, or leave it bare; then add a topping like sprinkles, graham cracker crumbs or shredded coconut. Finish it off with a drizzle of hot fudge, marshmallow sauce, salted caramel or raspberry. Voila! You have your own delicious creation you can vary or make every time.

Glaze Donuts

358 River Rd., New Milford
187 Franklin Ave., Nutley
554 Passaic Ave., West Caldwell
@glazedonuts

This spot’s donut menu rotates daily, so you’re always in for a surprise. The donuts are made in small batches with top-tier natural ingredients (preservative- and high fructose corn syrup-free!) Glaze also knows how to brew an epic cup of joe, made from roasted organic Arabica beans from small Trade Fair growers around the world. These award-winning shops are famous for the original Italian Rainbow Donut (only available on weekends), but other popular flavors include Nutella Rocher, New Jersey cheesecake, Ring Ding, blueberry crumb cream cheese and banana cream pie. Branch out with a sweet kolache, a pastry filled with fruit and cream cheese, zepps (their name for donut holes) or an all-butter croissant. Glaze also has house-made soda pop, plus ice cream at West Caldwell and waffles at New Milford.

Happy Place Homemade

690 Stokes Rd. in Medford
@happyplacehomemade

Happy Place ups the dessert game with made-from-scratch donuts, soft serve, and coffee in one sweet spot. Whether you sit in a diner-style booth or go through the drive-through, you’ll wait just a few minutes for a “donut robot” to make the fresh cake donuts. Start with the original glazed or chocolate, then branch out with the Inside-Out Boston Crème, wildberry cheesecake, s’mores, banana crumb or brown butter. Can’t decide what to order? Go for the Happy Stack, which layers ice cream with a donut stacked in the center, with more soft serve on top, with toppings and drizzles added. Or try the Donut Dandies, which are donut-ice cream sandwiches with toppings and drizzles, too.
