Robert Peterman, DMD, MDS

Specialty: Orthodontics

At Somerset Orthodontic Specialists, Dr. Robert Peterman is committed to making patients feel comfortable and confident from their first consultation to the moment their braces come off and a gorgeous new smile is revealed. “I take the time to ensure that both patients and their parents understand their treatment every step of the way.”

State-of-the-Art Technology

A board certified orthodontist, Dr. Peterman offers cutting-edge techniques and technology in his all-digital practice, including elimination of impressions with Itero digital scanning, digital X-rays, lingual braces and Invisalign.

“We use technology to deliver the best treatment possible based on each patient’s individual smile and facial aesthetics, so we can deliver beautiful smiles with fewer tooth extractions,” says Dr. Peterman.

Kid-Friendly Office

In his fun, friendly orthodontic office, patients can play video games or watch television—and kids love participating in the practice’s rewards program. Patients earn wooden nickels for proper dental hygiene and earning good grades, and then cash them in for prizes like gift cards.

“Not only do we get exceptional results and create beautiful smiles for our patients, but we also have a lot of fun,” Dr. Peterman says, who welcomed his first child, Robbie, earlier this year.

A diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, Dr. Peterman earned his DMD from the University of Pennsylvania. He continued his dental training at Rutgers University where he earned a specialty degree in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics and a master’s degree for his research in the field of orthodontics.

“There’s nothing more fun or exciting than being an orthodontist…I get to transform smiles and boost a patient’s confidence, and all while getting to know these unique, talented kids,” he says.

"I asked my 10-year-old son why he likes Dr. Peterman's office, and he said, "because they're fast." He always goes in as soon as we get to the office, I don't think we've ever waited. The workers are friendly, and everyone always greets us with a smile! "He did a good job with my braces and retainer and Dr. Peterman has good manners." I agree with my son, he does have good manners!" -Barbra, Branchburg

I feel what makes Dr. Peterman an exceptional doctor is that he's not only a perfectionist but he's extremely passionate about creating the most perfect smiles. He shares so much information with you about what it is he's doing, so you're never guessing and always on the same page. He and his team do a great job at making the kids feel just as important and included throughout the entire process. He makes going to your appointments exciting by always having fun contests and incentive programs to encourage optimal treatment progress. He really cares and it feels homey there. That's what makes the difference. -Kelly, Manville

Mr. Peterman and Mr. Wright are very nice. They're not strict and irritating if you forget to wear your rubber bands on your braces once or twice. They also do these fantasticly fun contests where you can win great prizes. One of the prizes was a brand new pair of Beats headphones. The docs also do something called the wooden nickel program. The amount of wooden nickels you earn determine how great your prize is. -Sahana, Raritan

My two children both go to Dr. Peterman. Having two sons who were both initially scares of the dentist, we're in great hands. My oldest son has successfully completed his braces session. The staff is very friendly, helpful and efficient. -Nicole, Somerville

"My daughter had her braces on/off with Dr. Peterman at Somerset Orthodontics. Their office and staff are amazing. We couldn't be happier. Dr. Peterman is amazing with kids—he's kind, friendly and makes the visit thoroughly enjoyable all the while explaining each process." -Susan, Raritan

"Our family loves Dr. Peterman because he gave us the best options and treatment for our son. He and his staff are very professional, caring and helpful. We can't thank them enough for working so hard to improve the life of our son and give him a beautiful and healthy smile!" -Patty, Branchburg

"Robert Peterman is my favorite doctor. He provides a program called the "Wooden Nickel Program," so if you wear your rubber bands correctly with your braces you get a nickel. If you have a good visit, you get a nickel, and whenever you do something good for your braces, you get nickels. It is either worth one or four points. The more nickels you get, the better prizes the are. You can earn get cool gift cards and a sweatshirt. Dr. Peterman is also very nice. When you walk into the room he kindly welcomes you. The staff there is also very kind and nice. Before you start begin your visit, they talk to you about how your day was."  -Brianna, Somerville
