Will There Be 6 More Weeks of Winter? Plus Some Bad News

After a healthy dose of warm weather in December, will NJ residents be gearing up for some early spring weather in this time of mourning?

Punxsutawney Phil, Pennsylvania’s official groundhog, didn't see his shadow, despite the recent blizzard that shut down the entire state of NJ. At 7:25 am this morning, the furry soothsayer predicted that spring will come early this year for the 18th time ever (he guessed winter would last another six weeks 102 times).

Unfortunately NJ residents are out of luck this year when it comes to local predictions. The Sussex County-based annual prediction, which takes place at Space Farms Zoo, has been canceled this year due to the death of their groundhog Stonewall Jackson IV late last night.

New Jersey’s own Essex Ed at the Turtle Back Zoo didn’t make an appearance this year, as he elected to spend the morning hibernating—making Punxsutawney Phil’s forecast the final word…which means it's time to pack up those sleds and winter boots!
