Autumn is the most gorgeous time of year to get outside and two northern New Jersey cities were just named among the best in the country to visit during the fall.

Playstar conducted a study revealing the best cities for fall in the U.S. Analysts gathered data for the 35 most populated cities in the U.S. – including the two biggest cities in New Jersey, where PlayStar operates – and evaluated the availability of fall activities, like pumpkin picking or getting a Pumpkin Spiced Latte from Starbucks (though we’re really proud of the many local coffee shops in Newark and Jersey City that offer up the fall drink, too; the beauty of the area, especially if the city has lots of Instagrammable spots; and how many of the city’s residents get into the mood by rewatching “Gilmore Girls” (about half of all episodes take place during fall and most seasons were released in September, making the series perfect to binge watch in the fall and winter). Metrics included Starbucks per capita, the percentage of cities covered in trees, Instagram posts per capita, pumpkin patches per capita and “Gilmore Girls” search volume.

According to Playstar, Jersey City ranked third, and Newark came in at No. 10. Pick-your-own is huge in NJ, and Jersey City ranks high on the list because of its 42 pumpkin patches. It’s also in the top three U.S. cities with the biggest search volume for “Gilmore Girls.” In Hudson and Essex counties, respectively, there are lots of street fairs and fall festivals during September and October. You can walk through Liberty State Park or Branch Brook Park to see the fall foliage, get lost in a  corn maze, or pick up an apple cider donut.

The Top 10 Cities in the U.S. That Are Best for Fall, according to Playstar, are:

  1. Boston, MA
  2. Seattle, WA
  3. Jersey City, NJ
  4. Portland, OR
  5. Chicago, IL
  6. Charlotte, NC
  7. Washington, D.C.
  8. Philadephia, PA
  9. Baltimore, MD
  10. Newark, NJ
