If you were hoping to get tickets to “Frozen” on Broadway after social distancing restrictions are lifted, you’re going to have to let that dream go.
The stage adaptation of Disney’s Frozen took its last bow at St. James Theatre on March 11 after opening in March 2018 and running for 26 previews and 825 regular performances. This past February, new cast members took on the roles of Anna and Elsa.
“’Frozen,’ like all shows, is wholly dependent on those who create and perform them but this was an uncommonly close and talented group and they’ll be missed, said Disney Theatrical Productions President Thomas Schumacher. “Finally, I have to acknowledge our incredible audiences; night after night, the fans showed us how much they loved this show and we look forward to seeing them at ‘Frozen’ around the world.”
“Frozen” isn’t the only show on the Great White Way to close its doors. “Beetlejuice” won’t resume performances at the Winter Garden Theatre, though producers are hoping to reopen at another venue. Both “Hangmen” and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” will remain closed, neither of which had a chance to officially open. The Great White Way isn’t scheduled to reopen its doors until Labor Day.
The musical’s national tour is still postponed, but scheduled to continue. Parts of the Broadway production will be repurposed for the tour to reduce cost and waste.
You can still get your Frozen fix on Disney+, where both the film and its sequel are streaming. If you’re still bummed about the Broadway show, you can watch full stage production of numbers like “Let It Go”, “For the First Time in Forever” and “I Can’t Lose You” on YouTube, where you can also watch Frozen Live at the Hyperion, a theatrical performance at Disneyland.
