In honor of National Family Literacy Month, Lawn Love ranked 2022’s Best Cities for Book Lovers and a NJ city made the top three!
The survey looked at the 200 biggest US cities based on access to public libraries, bookstores, book clubs, events and even those Little Free Libraries. They also looked at books released “into the wild” for random readers to pick up through BookCrossing.
Check out the top 10 cities for book lovers, with our very own Jersey City coming in at number three!
- Pasadena, California
- Seattle, Washington
- Jersey City, New Jersey
- Eugene, Oregon
- New York, New York
- Portland, Oregon
- Alexandria, Virginia
- Garden Grove, California
- Oakland, California
- Denver, Colorado
While those in Southern California and Seattle definitely love to crack a book, it was Jersey City that made a splash on the list, even beating out NYC as a haven for book worms.
“Jersey City is the biggest threat to Amazon, ranking number one for the most independent bookstores per 100,000 residents,” said the study authors.
It’s no wonder that Jersey City was recognized on the list — from WORD Bookstores to nearby Little City Books in Hoboken, your next great book is just a short trip away.
New Jersey has some of the best independent bookstores, and those from the Garden State know that there’s nothing like browsing a curated bookstore with a friendly staff to provide new recommendations for your next read.
