Fall is in the air and so is the smell of cider doughnuts! Now’s the perfect time to take in a fall harvest fest with the family, or why not do a doughnut crawl and decided which place has the best ones? If it rains, just head indoors to fun events like Nickelodeon Universe (that is, Boo-niverse) to enjoy the theme park transformed into a Halloween wonderland.

The 18th annual South Jersey Pumpkin Show family fall festival returns in person this year. Enjoy Artist and Craftsmen Village, Fall/Winter Home Show, Little Miss Pumpkin Show, truckloads of pumpkins, live bands, hay rides, The Legend of the Headless Horseman, Giant Pumpkin Pyramid, pumpkin dessert contest, NJ Largest Baked Pumpkin Pie and so much more. Medford Apple Festival

Hosted by the Medford Historical Society and Presented by ShopRite of Medford, this event features more than 120 hand-made crafters, plus great food, apple cider, apple baked goods, signature apple cider donuts made on-site and specially made apple ice cream. Popular Medford Historical Society apple butter is also available each year. Live music plays throughout the day.

Fall Block Party and Fireworks Spectacular
5th – 14th Streets on Asbury Avenue, Ocean City
Over 400 crafters, food vendors, music and more will be at this amazing block party. In the evening, take in fireworks over the boardwalk from 6th Street – 14th Street. Fireworks in Ocean City will be launched from a barge in the ocean near the Music Pier at 9 p.m. and will be best viewed from the beach and boardwalk between Fifth Street and 14th Street.

The Craft Show at Oktoberfest

This festival mixes traditional German food with Korean delicacies, with all proceeds benefiting the Demarest Nature Center. Kids can enjoy inflatable games or go for a canoe ride while adults sample brews and peruse the craft show.

Morristown Festival of Books: KidFest

KidFest is a day long, activity-filled event for kids of all ages and their parents. An exciting part of the Morristown Festival of Books, KidFest where kids meet their favorite authors and illustrators and partake in interactive presentations and book reading. Day of the Dead Workshop: Mexican Tin Art
Arts Council of Princeton
Celebrate el Día de los Muertos with the Arts Council of Princeton. Mexican Tin Art, or hojalatas, is the embossing of soft metal into elegant, delicate works of art. For Day of the Dead, learn how to make and decorate metal in various traditional designs, such as calaveras and hearts. You’ll also have the opportunity to loan your artwork to the Arts Council of Princeton to be displayed in a public installation in town.

Fall Farm Fun at Fosterfields
Fosterfields Historical Farm, Morristown
Pick your own pumpkin in a brand-new pumpkin patch. Take an open-air wagon ride around the farm.  Visit the farm and see corn grinding demos, butter churning,  special artisan demonstrations and visit with all your favorite farm animals including the pigs, cows, sheep, goats and chickens.  All activities are included with admission.


Vintage Around the Park

The Vintage Truck and Hoboken Historical Museum are hosting a pop-up vintage shopping fair, “Vintage Around the Park,” in Shipyard Park (rain date is Saturday, Sept. 16), with over 25 local vendors offering carefully curated collections of vintage and hand-embellished fashions and other items at price points for every budget.

Doggie Dip at the Pool
Montreal Beach Resort, Cape May
The Montreal Beach Resort will go to the dogs just prior to closing its pool for the season, with its fourth annual ‘Doggie Dip at the Pool’ fundraiser to benefit Animal Outreach of Cape May. Dogs will be the guests of honor for an afternoon of relaxation and fun at the pool from 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. The admission fee of $10 per pet will go directly to Animal Outreach of Cape May. The first 25 “swimmers” will receive doggie gift bags.

Pumpkin Patch Train
Whippany Railway Museum, Whippany
Join in the Halloween fun onboard The Pumpkin Patch Train. The 10-mile, 45-minute round trip from Whippany to Roseland and return is the perfect way to spend a fall afternoon with the family. After each ride, children with valid train tickets can go to the Pumpkin Patch and pick out a free kid-sized pumpkin and receive a pumpkin decorating kit while supplies last.
