These Are Yelpers’ 4 Favorite Places to Eat in NJ

Yelp analyzed reviews and the most photographed dishes from restaurants around the country

BOOMCHIA SUPERFOODS

The list of Yelp’s Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S. is out and NJ has 4 spots on the list, with options ranging from Brazilian to Japanese to French-Italian fusion.

The first NJ restaurant on the list, Boomchia Superfoods in Montclair, ranked No. 21 overall. Owner Josh Baek is a former personal trainer, and formed a business out of making frozen acai puddings topped with healthy grains, seeds, fruit, nut butters, honey and matcha. Baek studied in L.A. for two years, deciding he wanted to make food that looks like art and tastes like dessert but is actually healthy.

The most popular dishes include the blue coconut base, pitaya base, ancient grains granola topping, and dark chocolate gluten-free granola topping. Customers love making their own custom bowls, or ordering I’m Feelin Sweet, Boomchia Pudding and seasonal options like blood orange and activated charcoal.

The second New Jersey restaurant is No. 37’s Jessica’s Café in Plainfield, which is now Jessica’s Restaurant in Fanwood. Chef/Owner Armen Saqe recently relocated to make way for a larger dining room, a lively bar and an outdoor patio.

Saqe fuses French and Italian dishes, with Yelpers going crazy for the pasta al ragu, crème brulee, apricot bread pudding, jumbo lump crab meat crepe and grilled 15-ounce milk-fed pork chop. The most popular dishes posted to Yelp include the cream of mixed wild mushroom soup, the roasted beats salad, the crab crepe and the pork chop.

No. 65, Kenko Sushi in Lincoln Park, has made Yelp’s list for the fourth time, mostly because diners love the sushi rolls shaped like volcanoes and monsters. The Godzilla roll, spicy lobster roll, spicy white tuna roll, Kenko Special, Lincoln Park roll and seared salmon sushi top the choices reviewed on Yelp.

Kenko is only open four days a week, and customers come by not only for the sushi but also for 11 different iced tea flavors, and 17 different bubble teas.

Sabor Unido,  a Brazilian and Portuguese restaurant that has been family-run for more than a decade in the Ironbound section of Newark, comes in at No. 83 nationally. Yelpers show off its Camarao a Guilho (grilled garlic shrimp), Bavaroise of Red Fruits (flan with mixed berry compote), passionfruit mousse and coconut flan. Fried yucca and pork sausage, Brazilian chicken wings, liver steak with onions also top the list of popular dishes.
