These Are the Top 10 Christmas Movies to Watch With Your Family

Check out the festive flicks that parents and kids can all agree on!

With Christmas just around the corner and an impending snowstorm even closer, it’s definitely time to pull out the blankets and settle down on the couch for a family movie night. But when it comes to finding a movie everyone in the house can agree on many of us are left stumped. This year, Electric Ride on Cars looked at 50 of the most well-known family Christmas films and helped identify the top 10 of all time.

The study looked at several factors including IMDB audience raring, Metacritic critic rating and box office revenue. They also employed a three-point “Christmas rating” (because the more “Christmassy” the better!) in order to reveal the best family-friendly Xmas movies that you can watch tonight!

Here are the top 10 best family Christmas movies:

  1. The Nightmare Before Christmas
  2. A Christmas Story
  3. Arthur Christmas
  4. The Polar Express
  5. The Muppet Christmas Carol
  6. Elf
  7. It’s a Wonderful Life
  8. Home Alone
  9. A Christmas Carol
  10. The Santa Clause

Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” won the top spot, coming in as the best family Christmas film to watch this festive season. The movie, which follows Jack Skellington on his quest to bring Christmas to his hometown of Halloween Town, received an audience score of 8 out of 10, a critic score of 82 out of 100 and generated over $164 million at the box office.

“It’s A Wonderful Life” is the highest-rated Christmas movie, both by audience and critics, scoring 8.6 out of 10 on IMDB and 89/100 on Metacritic.

Excluded from the list were Christmas horror films as they were not deemed family-friendly as well as short films, direct-to-video and made-for-television movies. But with this great list of animated and live-action films, you’re bound to find something to watch that everyone can agree on – so get that popcorn popping!
