Book it to the shore for a Labor Day filled with lobster. Visit more than 180 craft and specialty vendors, listen to six bands and DJs and let the kids go crazy on the water slide and rides before hitting the face painting and sand art.
Boar’s Head BBQ & Craft Beer Festival
Send off summer with a barbecue bang! Think tender pork, brisket and ribs, all washed down with ice-cold beer (there are more than 40 craft brews to choose from) at Monmouth Park Racetrack. There’ll also be live music and free pony rides, face painting, clowns and a bounce house.
$5, free/ages 5 and under
Boonton Fireman’s Carnival and Labor Day Parade
Bring the kids out to the Boonton High School for amusements, games (finally win that stuffed animal this year!) and food like funnel cake and cotton candy. Plus, adults can hit the beer tent.
St. Bartholomew UNICO Italian Festival
This traditional Italian feast has a little something for each of your family members: Think live music, rides and Italian chow like pizza, pasta, calzones and zeppoles.
Saint Joseph Feast
Every night this Labor Day weekend, the family can enjoy traditional Italian foods, rides and games. It’s the perfect opportunity to sink your teeth into some classic fare and fun.
FRIDAY (AUGUST 30)
Mendham Labor Day Carnival
The Annual Labor Day Carnival is back with tons of rides, games and carnival food—aka the best way to end the summer. Don’t forget to enter the 50/50 raffle either, which has boasted a $50,000 prize in the past.
Summer Nights on Donaldson Farms
Enjoy the great outdoors and summer sun while you sample delicious farm-fresh foods. What’s a party without live music and games? Stop by for pony rides, duck races and lawn games, perfect for a family-friendly evening.
SATURDAY (AUGUST 31)
The Tomato Festival in Wilbraham Park
West Cape May
Cape May’s tomatoes are worthy of celebration—trust us, we’ve eaten a lot of them. So, it’s no surprise everyone’s favorite Jersey fruit has its own festival. Pick fresh, ripe tomatoes or spend a few bucks on tomato pies and empanadas.
Sussex County Miners Food Truck & Beer Fest
Celebrate the end of summer with a Miners game, which your family can watch while chowing down on classic summer foods (and beers for the parents!). There’ll also be live music and fireworks after the game.
SUNDAY (SEPTEMBER 1)
There’ll be crafts, gifts, entertainment and programs for the kids. Reenactors, encampments and artisans will recreate scenes from traditional Scandinavian life. Keep an eye out for the annual all-Jersey wife-carry contest.
Clifton Food Truck, Music & Art Festival
Support local veterans and art by digging into fare from food trucks, hitting the beer garden, listening to live music, hitting the children’s craft station, perusing artwork and more.
$5/admission, free/ages 10 and under
