Mac, a high school athlete, felt severe pain in his upper body while playing soccer. He had not fallen or been injured but experienced sharp pain in his shoulder blade, under his arm and in his sternum. His mom took her then 16-year-old son to a local urgent care, where he was told he had a muscle strain and to take an over-the-counter pain reliever.
The next morning, while not much better, he went to Atlantic Health System’s AdvancED Urgent Care in Mountain Lakes, where a chest X-ray determined Mac had a partially collapsed lung. Within 10 minutes, Mac was in an ambulance on his way to Goryeb Children’s Hospital in Morristown. Watch the video below as Mac shares his story.
