If you’re looking for a fun summer activity that’s completely out of the ordinary, why not check out a polo match at Tinicum Park? Located in Pennsylvania just across the river from Frenchtown, NJ, Tinicum Polo Park hosts matches every Saturday, and the cost is just $10/per carload.
Don’t worry if you don’t know the rules of polo. The announcer explains everything, making this a very accessible and family-friendly event. The game is fast paced with chukkers (matches) lasting seven and a half minutes each. There’s even an opportunity for kids to sit on an outfitted faux polo pony for a photo opp.
One of the most exciting aspects of the match is halftime, a 10–15-minute intermission. At this time, spectators are asked to walk the field to replace any divots back as part of a traditional polo divot stomp. There’s even champagne served with the divot stomp for those of age! Families are also allowed to bring a cooler with food and beverages, and beverages and light snacks are sold on site. Dogs are welcome on leash. You can bring lawn chairs, tables and tents to set up a tailgate and enjoy the day.
Tinicum Park Polo Club is located in Erwinna, Pennsylvania and you can pay admission at the gate the day of the match. Visitors can also call the Polo Hotline 908-996-3321 for event info and rain cancellations.
