Robotics Summer Camp

High schoolers with an interest in robotics or engineering can dorm on campus for this week-long intensive summer program that aims to help students build, program and use their own robots. They’ll learn about electrical and computer engineering, programming and more alongside professors and engineers. This one requires an application, so be sure to fill one out before spots fill up.

NJCSTM Group Summer Scholars Research Program

Set them up for success with a six-week research experience for students prepping for a STEM career. Grades 10-12 are eligible to apply and join research teams paired with faculty members. Your teen scholars will conduct scientific research in Analytical Chemistry, Virtual Reality andScientific Visualization, Microbiomes and Bioinformatics, Cancer Biology, Computational Mathematics and Modern Drug Discovery. Applications are due March 30, so if you miss out, be sure to apply early next year.

Rising high school seniors can hit the books while enrolled in introductory college-level courses in Information Technology, Psychology, Natural Sciences and even Climate Science for six weeks. Students in grades 7-11 can try a variety of STEM-related courses like Fundamentals of Aerodynamics, Food Microbiology, Foundations of Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnologies and Data Science. There are online, half- and full-day options available. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

NEW JERSEY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

Students need to apply to get into one of these summer programs for grades 5-12. Courses include Women in Engineering and Technology Initiatives (Environmental, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering, plus Computer Coding), Fundamentals of Physical Sciences, Intermediate Robotics and more. Deadline is April 9.

PRINCETON UNIVERSITY

Teens ages 13-17 can take courses  

in math, science and technology, and choose between living on campus or commuting for three weeks. RUTGERS UNIVERSITY

Rutgers’ Summer Academies offer one-week residential certificate programs for juniors and seniors ages 16-18 in Medical Imaging Technology, Pre-Engineering, STEAM and more. Students live on campus, attend presentations, go on field trips and bond with other teens during rec activities for a week. The Summer Academies programs allow students to learn from professionals, work in maker spaces and try out potential fields of interest. Registration deadlines begin May 3, depending on the session.

Summer Scholars Program

Students ages 16 and up can take up to two intro courses, attend college success workshops, tour the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus, go on field trips and get a jump start on their degree. They’ll work with faculty to explore their interests and potential majors, and can take classes like Digital Game Creation, Earth Systems, Chemistry, Accounting and Metaphysics. Deadlines are May 25 and June 1.

SETON HALL UNIVERSITY

Giant Leap Summer Science Program

High schoolers can gain basic or advanced hands-on experience to prepare them for the world of scientific research in topics like Astronomy, Mechanics, Electronics and Robotics. Each workshop is five days per week (Astronomy classes require dorming). Students will work in small groups of two or three with faculty, grad students and researchers. Registration opens in March.
