Just because National Autism Awareness Month ends in May doesn’t mean the sensory-friendly fun is. Six Flags Great Adventure & Safari in Jackson is hosting Autism Day, a sensory-friendly fundraiser especially for guests on the autism spectrum and with special needs on May 8.
In partnership with the Custom Education Foundation and Gersh Academy, the park will be transforming for the special needs community. Custom Education will be making calm decompression areas with iPads and other sensory-friendly items throughout the park for when special needs guests need some break time. Music and lights will be adjusted to provide a more inclusive experience. In addition, highly-trained Gersh Academy staff will be available around the park to help families who need a hand, plus presentations and resource happenings with professionals in the autism field will be happening throughout the day.
Beloved rides and attractions that’ll be open include The Dark Knight Coaster, Nitro, Fender Benders Bumper Cars, BATMAN: The Ride, Slingshot and more. In addition to rides, you and the crew can check out the Looney Tunes Seaport Kids Area, the Safari Off Road Adventure and the Edwards Airforce Base: Parachute Training Center.
Tickets for Autism Day can be bought online for $39.99. For more information, contact njspecialevents@sixflags.com, visit sixflags.com/greatadventure or call 732-928-2000.
