Just last week, I went to my first parent-teacher conference. My son began a half-day pre-K program in the public elementary school this fall, and, I learned, he is “excelling” as a “bright” and “mannered” child with “lots of friends”—his teacher’s words. Mine: “Phew.” I don’t get to do the whole drop-off/pick-up thing very often, so it was a thrill for me to walk the halls of his school and talk with his teacher. I was giddy checking out the artwork of Keith and his peers hanging in the corridor (and I, naturally, deem his to be the best).
Since I’m new to the whole school thing, I read with great interest this month’s feature story on the two new changes coming to our public schools.
