One of Our Favorite Aquariums in NJ Finally Reopen This Fall

Aside from seeing the animals you've missed, check out the extensive renovations

VISIT ATLANTIC CITY / Atlantic City Aquarium

It seems like the turtles, sharks and fish at the Atlantic City Aquarium have still been in lockdown due to the COVID pandemic, but there’s good news on the horizon: after shutting down in March 2020, the aquarium is set to reopen in September.

Get ready to see some of your favorite sea creatures, including Elliot the bearded dragon, Ray and the other cow nose stingrays, Max the American lobster, Bella the Columbian red-tail boa constrictor, and Big Mama the blue-tongued skink. There are more than 100 varieties of fish such as sea bass, sand tiger sharks, northern stingray, bluefish and kingfish. The Touch Tank allows you to handle green, horseshoe, hermit and spider crabs, sea urchins, sea stars, mussels and shrimp. There are computers at each exhibit so you can learn more about the marine life you’re looking at, and you can take a self-guided tour. Spend some time on the second and third floor outdoor observations decks, too.

The Atlantic City Aquarium was built in 1999 but closed four years ago when the COVID-19 pandemic began. Renovations were planned prior for the 14,500-square-foot, three-story space and its 30,000 gallons of live exhibits, but took longer over the past few years due to cost and supply chain issues, and included extensive interior and exterior renovations which have since been completed.

The Atlantic City Aquarium is located at 800 N. New Hampshire Ave. in Atlantic City. The aquarium will be open 7 days a week, year-round, from 10 am to 5 pm, starting this fall, with an exact date not yet announced. The aquarium is only closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors age 62 and up, $6 for kids ages 4-12, and free for kids under 3. Parking is free.
