Target Age:
Early 2-Year-Old
Materials You Will Need:
15 blocks (same size and color)
What to Do:
Children learn by using their sense of sight. Today's activity promotes the understanding of number quantity. Sit with your child as you explore numbers, playing with blocks together. On the left put one block and say, "One." Right next to it, stack two blocks and count, "One, two." Do this until you stack 5 blocks. Point out that the stack of 5 blocks is higher than the stack of one block; the stack of 4 is higher than the stack of 2 blocks; etc. Seeing the stacks will help your child begin to understand quantity. Ask your child to show you the highest stack of blocks and the lowest.
