New Jersey's Best Towns for Families: North Caldwell

Highest Ranked: Essex County

North CaldwellYou probably already recognize North Caldwell as Tony Soprano’s hometown on HBO’s The Sopranos—but you may not know that North Caldwell also has top-tier schools, safe streets (with the sixth lowest crime rate in the Garden State) and beautiful rolling hills, where you can see the NYC skyline. Throughout the year, the town’s government, historical society and recreation department sponsor fun family events like the Town Picnic—a massive, community-wide gathering with carnival games, food and live music—and Movies at the North Caldwell Community Pool—a summer tradition where residents head to the pool (membership not required) for night of swimming, snacks and outdoor movies every Thursday evening. They’ve even got a yearly event to welcome new residents into the close community: Newcomer’s Night.
