For all our complaints about high taxes, non-stop traffic and the high cost of homes and apartments, New Jersey was just ranked as one of the country’s happiest states. WalletHub just released its report on 2023’s Happiest States in America, and New Jersey came in at No. 5.
Studies have shown that good economic, emotional, physical and social health are key to a well-balanced and fulfilled life. Most people measure their level of happiness by where they live, the meaningful relationships in their lives, their sense of purpose or belonging, how much money they make (enough to live a lower-stress life) and how many resources they have access to.
According to an analysis of 30 key indicators of happiness, NJ has the following rankings:
1st – Lowest suicide rate
3rd – Lowest separation and divorce rate
12th – Percentage of depressed adults
13th – Share of adults who feel active and productive
15th – Safety
16th – Number of work hours
25th – Adequate sleep rate
We know the many reasons we love it here. New Jersey has top-notch public schools, is chock full of great food, cute downtowns (Cape May, Jersey City, Asbury Park, Ridgewood and Princeton to name just a few), history, culture, amazing local theater and more.
We’ve got all the coasters at Six Flags Great Adventure, shopping and attractions at American Dream, the planetarium and more at Liberty Science Center, the Jersey Shore and so much more.
Do you agree that NJ is a happy place to live and raise our kids?
