Morey’s Piers and Beachfront Water Parks are celebrating 50 years of fun with new amusement and culinary additions. The Wildwood institution is already beloved for its three amusement piers (Mariner’s, Surfside and Adventure) and two water parks (Ocean Oasis and Raging Waters). The new Wild Whizzer, a spinning coaster with carts that look like hovercrafts, will soon be one of your kid’s faves.
Budding scallywags will be happy to hear that Pirates of the Wildwoods, a staple on the boardwalk, has been completely revamped for summer. The legendary interactive adventure has new glow-in-the-dark interior scenes made with 3-D paint, which will give kids the illusion of motion when they wear their 3-D specs. They’ll have a blast hunting for treasure with Captain Bones.
After you’ve braved Wildwood’s coasters, dig into its epic eats. PigDog Beach Bar, a dog-friendly barbecue spot behind Raging Waters, opened in June. It serves staples like brisket, potato salad and BBQ wings, plus over-the top signature items like the PigDog Dog, a foot-long hot dog topped with pulled pork, scallions and jalapeños.
Sip a specialty cocktail while drinking in ocean views. And you may want to sneak in some kid-free time at Wilhelm’s Biergarten, where you can sample imported and local brews and authentic German fare at an outdoor picnic table. Menu highlights include huge Bavarian pretzels, fried pierogis (keep ’em classic with applesauce and sour cream, or go rogue with bacon on a stick) and cheddar bratwurst sandwiches.
