A massive LEGOLAND New York theme park opened recently in Goshen, NY, but if you’re looking for something to do with your little LEGO fans closer to home, the brand-new LEGOLAND Discovery Center New Jersey is now open at American Dream in East Rutherford.
Aimed at kids ages 3-10, this LEGO-themed play place has an interactive ride, master model builder classes, a 4D cinema and a New York/New Jersey MINILAND filled with famed landmarks from around the Garden State.
Once you enter, step onboard the Imagination Express. Once seated and strapped in, your train card will disembark on a cute ride. Grab a wand to help zap things in your way and help with a quest to get to the end of your journey.
After the ride, you’ll step into the 30,000 sq. ft space, filled with lots of LEGOs, of course. Head to Heartlake City, where the LEGO Friends Andrea, Mia, Olivia, Stephanie and Emma reside and craft your own colorful creations. Or try your hand at building a shake-proof sculpture that you can test out on an earthquake table. Toddlers can get started with their building in DUPLO Park, filled with oversized bricks.
Think you’ve got what it takes to be a LEGO Master? Head to the creative workshop for a class with a Master Model Builder for tips on building amazing creations. And after step into the Builder Challenge Area, where you’ll hear stories, get inspired to make new sculptures or meet Bertie, the LEGO mascot.
A highlight of the space is the MINILAND. Crafted out of 1.5 million bricks (yes, really!), it features New Jersey and New York landmarks and has interactive features. Stay awhile and you’ll see it change from day to night, with lights and colors and moving parts. This alone is worth a visit.
The kids, and you, can chill out and watch a movie at the 4D Cinema, where short movies play regularly (check the times when you get there), and you’ll be treated to a few surprises.
Afterward, the kids can try out the NINJAGO-themed jungle gym to burn off some steam or build a car and race against each other at the test track.
There is a coffee shop and cafe inside the space along with birthday party rooms that can be reserved for some all-inclusive fun.
Tickets are $28.99/person, but you can grab a combo ticket with the neighboring SEA LIFE Aquarium for $43.99/adult or $38.99/ child. Membership to LEGOLAND Discovery Center New Jersey starts at $79.99/person. It’s important to note that adults are only allowed in when accompanied by a child, for the safety of everyone.
