Kylie's Special Treat: A Food Allergy Fairy Tale is a whimsical fairy tale for children ages 4–8 highlighting the fact that kids with food allergies can live happily ever after.
The book clearly draws on the beloved Cinderella tale but adds a few pink sparkles of its own to create a fun, memorable, and heartwarming story just right for kids with food allergies. The tale is about a beautiful girl who loves to paint—and dreams of the prince she once met at an art class.
In the story, Kylie receives an invitation (as do others in the kingdom) to make the prince a special treat. With some magical help, Kylie happily bakes him her favorite dessert, sans the milk, eggs, and nuts she's allergic to. Young readers see how Kylie manages her food allergies with poise and confidence.
The story was inspired by author Letizia Barbetta's own daughter Sofia, whose multiple food allergies compelled her to ask her mom if there was ever a princess with food allergies.
Kylie's Special Treat: A Food Allergy Fairy Tale by Letizia Barbetta (Second Street Publishing LLC, 2012) is available at bookstores and libraries nationwide and online at Amazon.com.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Kylie's Special Treat: A Food Allergy Fairy Tale will be donated to the non-profit food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network, which seeks to advance research on behalf of those affected by food allergies and anaphylaxis.
