It’s Official: NJ Is the Last State Where You Can't Pump Your Own Gas

Oregon just passed a law allowing residents in rural areas to pump their own gas, leaving us as the most pampered state in the country.

Until Monday, Oregon was the only other state in the U.S. where you couldn’t pump your own gas. But now almost half of that state is allowing self-service gas pumps.

This makes our lovely Garden State the last remaining holdout on state-mandated full-service gas. Did you know you could actually be fined for getting out of the car and pumping your own?

The idea of having to get out of the car simply unthinkable for many of us who have never pumped our own gas. Think about the week we’ve been having with single digit temps and severe winds. Then think about being inside your warm and toasty car. Then think about actually getting out of the car to pump your own gas? Yeah, no.

But this isn't just about the convenience. Full-service gas stations across the state are a major source of employment for many NJ residents who are willing to brave frigid temps or endure blazing hot temps to pump our gas for us. According to nj.com, approximately 10,000 people earn their income that way.

What do you think? Should NJ stick with the law, or go with the rest of the country?
