Save yourself a trip across state lines to buy sparklers for your backyard BBQ. Governor Chris Christie just signed a bill legalizing “non-explosive, non-aerial” fireworks, just in time for the 4th of July.
The possession and sale of non-explosive fireworks is now legal in NJ, glow worms, party poppers, sparklers and other smoke devices.
Leave behind the sky rockets, firecrackers, Roman candles and bottle rockets this year though, since those are still banned here. If you’re caught with any of these illegal fireworks, it could cost you $500 in fines and a disorderly persons offense.
Make sure your kids are over 16 (and careful) if they decide to break out the sparklers!
