A recent report published in JAMA Pediatrics found that teens who chatted with their mothers about safe sex were more likely to actually practice it. In a review of medical literature spanning 30 years and pooling data from 25,000 teens, researchers found a correlation between talking about the birds and the bees with a parent and using condoms and other birth control. The link was stronger among girls (compared to boys), especially when they were chatting with Mom. Think your kid isn't sexually active? Think again. Thirty-nine percent of NJ high schoolers have already had sex.
