How to Stop a Nosebleed

Does your kid get a lot of nosebleeds? Here's how to stop it. Fast.

Bloody noses are a messy reality for a lot of kids this time of year, since the chilly, dry air tends to irritate the lining of the nose more in the winter than any other season. Add that to a surge in colds (with raw and inflamed noses) and you might find yourself going through a lot of tissues.

To prevent them in the future:

• Run a humidifier in your child’s room at night to keep the air moist

• Apply petroleum jelly to the inner walls of the nose

• Spray nostrils with saline (salt water) nose drops a few times a day, which will prevent nasal tissues from getting too dry

Kid Got a Nosebleed? Do this:

lt his head back and apply firm pressure to both nostrils for about five minutes. You can also put ice on the nose, which should slow the blood flow.
