We were all saddened to see horrifying footage of the blaze that destroyed the Avalon apartment complex in Edgewater, NJ on Wednesday night. It left 1,000 people homeless, and since then we've seen pleas popping up all over facebook for aid. But what’s the best way to help?

According to NJ.com, officials have created a GoFundMe page to raise money (gofundme.com/edgewater-fire), and donations can be made at the website edgewaterstrong.com.

If you are looking to donate supplies, bring them to City Place, 225 River Road, where the Red Cross Relief Center is set up.

Donations can also be brought to the Comfort Inn in Edgewater – where many residents have been temporarily housed.

If you are specifically looking to help the animals that have been displaced in this tragedy, the Bergen County Protect and Rescue is accepting donations at its shelter at 302 Second St.

And other charities are popping up quickly (a long list is available here), so there are plenty of opportunities for you to provide assistance.
