If you’re looking for new outdoor spots to visit during the pandemic, a trip to Alstede Farms is filled with family-friendly activities, especially their sunflower maze which is blooming now. Grab your camera and have fun getting lost for a few hours.Â
The Chester farm in Morris County has made a number of changes to make visiting a safe experience during the pandemic. Visitors must purchase tickets in advance, and will only be admitted at the time slot listed on the ticket to minimize the amount of people in the fields at any given time. Time slots are available every 15 minutes from 9 am-5 pm. All visitors are required to wear face coverings and the farm has placed multiple sanitization stations throughout the farm.
Alstede Farms is overflowing with entertainment, as you can wander through the sunflower maze while enjoying fresh, u-pick fruit. Immerse yourself in the farm through a scenic tractor-drawn wagon ride and then give your sense of direction another test in the new Evergreen Adventure maze. Animal lovers can visit with the friendly farm animals (you can purchase carrots and feed bags to give to the animals at the farm’s market!) while the kids clamber up the giant hay pyramid. All of these activities are included in your price of admission to the farm.
Weekend visitors can take in free live music as they dine on lunch at the Hen House or at the Donut Haus food trucks. Looking to treat your sweet tooth? Finish your day off with homemade ice cream at the outdoor Ice Cream Stand, featuring savory seasonal flavors like Peach Raspberry and Peach Blueberry.
Admission costs $15.99 and includes access to the pick-your-own areas, a pint-sized box for your fruit and access to the farm’s other activities. Tickets can be bought on the farm’s website. Make sure to bring your shears to cut your own sunflowers for only $2.00 per stem. All ticket sales are final, so remember to check the weather before your visit.
