With Father’s Day around the corner, you may have already considered buying a Fudgie the Whale cake “For a Whale of a Dad.”

The iconic Carvel ice cream cake is turning 40 years old on June 1. Created in 1977 for Father’s Day, Fudgie has become a staple in the ice cream store for all occasions. There are more than 50,000 of cakes sold in Carvel stores annually, which proves Fudgie’s cultural significance is stronger now than ever before (he’s even come up on popular shows like Saturday Night Live and The Office).

To celebrate, Carvel has teamed up with Save the Whales, a non-profit marine wildlife conservation group that also happens to be turning 40 this year. You can donate to Save the Whales at your local Carvel from June 1 through September 30. Donate $10 to be entered to win free ice cream cake for a year, or donate $25 to get a shot at a Fudgie the Whale plush toy.

If you’d rather help the cause in another way, look for Fudgie the Whale cakes that have a Save the Whales emblem all summer long. Carvel will donate to the organization for every purchase of a specially marked cake. Plus, the first 70 Fudgie friends who buy the nostalgic treat will get to take home a commemorative cake server.
