Four NJ Towns Ranked in Money Magazine’s Best Places to Live for 2016

One Garden State town made it into the nation’s top five hometowns

We all know that New Jersey is great (that's why we live here!) but if you needed any more proof to show those naysayers, Money magazine just released its “Best Places to Live 2016,” and four Garden State towns made the list.

Of the 50 towns included, Morris County’s Parsippany-Troy Hills topped the list in the number five spot–it also topped our list of best large towns for families in 2015. On top of affordability, low unemployment and a manageable average commute time of 25 minutes, the editors at Money cited the town’s greenery as a major plus.

“You might also be surprised to know that Parsippany has been named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for the past 40 years,” the editors said. “Or that the local team made it to the Little League World Series in 2012. Or that Lake Parsippany has become a favorite swimming pool for brown bears and other critters.”

Edison in Middlesex County came in at number 19, Franklin in Somerset County captured the 23rd slot and Cherry Hill in Camden County was ranked 26th.

The rankings were based on several factors including, taxes, education, health care, job availability and home affordability, and looked at towns with a population of 50,000–300,000.

New Jersey Family does its own ranking of Best Towns for Families, evaluating things like schools, affordability, low crime, commute time and diversity. Find out who topped our list this year, and stay tuned for our new list, coming in April 2017.
