With the fall foliage season reaching its peak here in New Jersey, now is a great time to take a fun family photo. Here are 10 inspired ideas for capturing the whole family in a memorable portrait:
Dress up. Forget white or khaki and go for something quirky and fabulous. Start with these ideas from Laci Davis Photography to create something festive and fun.
Create a collage on the computer. Can't get all the kids to smile at the same time? No problem. Let Picasa or PicMonkey provide a little digital assistance to create a collage that incorporates multiple photographs.
Add words. Use a chalkboard at the photo shoot to record family jokes, favorite quotes, or anything else you’d like to remember. Or add the words to the photo later using photo editing software. You can even make a separate photo for each member of the family.
Get framed. Have parents hold an empty frame with the kids inside, or hold the frame so that the whole family is peeking out from the middle.
Go big. For large families, or for photos with all the grandkids, have each child hold a number that represents his or her place in the birth order.

Hug it out. Especially fun if you've got little kids to give their hugs around their parents' legs, or better yet, upside-down.
Jump! Every family looks great captured mid-air.
Pick a unique setting. Think red barn, retro diner, vintage car — anything out-of-the-ordinary makes a great setting.
Read. Capture family members reading their favorite book.
Take advantage of the fall foliage. Facebook fan Natalie suggests photographing the family in a leaf pile with just their heads showing.
