In honor of Earth Day, April 22, here are some NJ happenings to celebrate and protect Mother Earth:
4/1–4/15: Eco-Rally
Sign up individually or as a team and keep a daily log of everyday tasks that reduce energy and promote a greener lifestyle; then create a display of posters or pictures. Projects will be exhibited April 24–May 6 at the Somerset County Park Commission’s Environmental Education Center, 190 Stirling Rd., Basking Ridge, NJ. The Eco-Rally Ceremony is May 6 at 2 pm.
4/22: Bloomfest
The last day of the annual Essex County Cherry Blossom Festival (April 7–22) features live performances, demonstrations, and children’s activities—in addition to the main attraction of more than 4,000 cherry trees blooming in glorious color. 11 am–5 pm; Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ
4/22: Daffodil Day
Spend Earth Day with 40,000 daffodils and celebrate with an endangered species parade, a sustainability maze, green crafts and games, and more. 1–4 pm; $10 per person, $25 maximum per non-member family; Reeves-Reed Arboretum, 165 Hobart Ave., Summit, NJ.
4/28: Earth Day Celebration
The day includes 100 booths with hands-on activities, guided nature walks, demonstrations of solar power and electric cars, and more. 11 am–4 pm; $3 per adult, $2 for ages 12 and under, kids under 2 are free; Great Swamp at Lewis Morris Park in Morris Township, NJ.
