August 26 is recognized as Women’s Equality Day to celebrate the day that the 19th Amendment was certified. At APC, Women’s Equality Day is dedicated not only to women’s success and solidarity, but also to acknowledging the long road ahead that leads to true gender equality for all. While this day is the anniversary of the adoption of the 19th Amendment, that law did not guarantee all women the right to vote. Most women of color obtained their franchise with the Voting Rights Act of 1965, after nearly half a century more of struggle.
The Alice Paul Center for Gender Justice is seeking five volunteers to serve on its Volunteer Committee for the annual festival. The volunteers will assist staff with organizing this year’s festival.
