Ride one of the historic preservation trains to celebrate Whippany Railway Museum’s 60th anniversary.
The museum traces its roots back to May 9, 1965. when the Morris County Central Railroad (MCC) began operating steam-powered excursion trains out of Whippany. At the same time, the museum’s predecessor organization was founded.
There are family-friendly, fun-themed train rides from May through mid-October.
To celebrate the anniversary, the museum is offering a discount for various classes of passenger accommodations on May 18 only. Ride in either of the two meticulously restored, award-winning Club Cars – Lackawanna 2454 or Jersey Coast – for a reduced fare of $19.65. Or, ride in one of the historic cabooses for $10 per adult and $5 per child.
The train ride is a 10-mile, 45-minute round trip.
Back at Whippany, visit the museum building with its Gift Shop and historic exhibits, with hundreds of artifacts on display. There’s also an operating Lionel O gauge model railroad in operation.
To mark the occasion, all passengers will receive a commemorative Morris County Central Railroad keepsake.
