Description
Celebrate General and President George Washington's birthday with the Bergen County Historical Society.
The Tricorne Dance Ensemble, which is under the direction of dance mistress Denise Piccino, will be performing an hour-long program that will celebrate General Washington through song and dance in the state historic 1752 Steuben House at 1:30 pm and 3 pm. Musical accompaniment will be provided by Ridley and Anne Enslow on the fiddle and hammered dulcimer. Space is limited for each performance.
On display in the Steuben House will be the society's lighting exhibit Seeing the Past Through a Different Light and New Bridge in the American Revolution: Artifacts and Maps exhibit which includes enlargements on nine period maps and Revolutionary War artifacts from their extensive collection.
Take a peek at the treasures in the gift shop while you enjoy seasonal refreshments which will be available for purchase inside the tavern.
Don't forget to visit the society's authentic Jersey Dutch out-kitchen where interpreters will be preparing a traditional English boiled pudding, a sweet apple pie, and roasting meat on the open hearth using 18th century recipes.
Re-enactors from the 3rd New Jersey Regiment will be on site demonstrating military life.
Activities for families include a Washington-themed scavenger hunt with a prize and the society's newest activity the QR Code History Challenge a cell phone based scavenger hunt where visitors can use their phones to scan QR codes throughout the site to watch videos and answer questions.
Face masks are not required but are optional for those who wish to wear them.
Ticket reservations are encouraged: $12 adults, $7 students, BCHS members free.
Free parking available on site or take the train to the New Bridge Landing station on the Pascack Valley Line.
