Description
While searching through sources for a "Montclair Buildings in the 1890s" lecture, architect Debra David began to notice the Scientific American Architects and Builders Edition often featured houses in Montclair. Further exploration led to discoveries of the architectural history of Township’s development as a suburban hub and the rich residential architecture in Montclair. Focusing on the residences featured in Scientific American from 1885 through 1905, we will learn more about the turn of the century residential architects in Montclair. Debra David is the principal her own architectural firm located in Montclair New Jersey. She holds a Master of Architecture from University of Colorado, Denver. Her practice is primarily focused on the renovation and rehabilitation of buildings built between 1860 and 1920 in both the Montclair and Jersey City areas. She is fascinated by the means and methods of construction for historic buildings and puts her own special twist on a project by updating materials and renovating to fit today's lifestyle. Throwback Thursdays take place on the first Thursday of the month. Each month, the Montclair History Center will explore a different history topic -- people, architecture, artifacts, and more. Throwback Thursdays take place in the Founders’ Room of the Crane House and Historic YWCA.
