Welcome to Schiff's 10th Annual Environmental Film Festival! A true community event, the festival allows us to show inspiring environmental films, serve as a venue for community gathering, and promote discussion of environmental issues. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, recognized below, the proceeds from this event help Schiff in its education, stewardship and conservation mission. We thank all of our past attendees and sponsors.
Due to pending roof renovations at the Woodbadge Lodge, the movie will be shown at the Nature Center. The location has changed, but the event once again promises a wonderful evening of educational and thought-provoking films, discussion, and community.
This Year's Films
Reinventing Power: America's Clean Energy Boom
The feature film, Reinventing Power: America's Clean Energy Boom, takes us across the country to hear directly from the people making our clean energy future achievable. These individuals are working to rebuild what's broken, rethink what's possible, and revitalize communities. These stories are proof that America does not need to choose between keeping our lights on and protecting our communities. Critically, Reinventing Power underscores the notion that we don't have to sacrifice jobs for a clean environment. Supporting a clean energy future means building a better, more prosperous future for everyone. Over the documentary film's 50 minutes, attendees meet people in eight states whose lives were changed by the renewable energy industry while exploring various aspects of the clean energy industry from innovation to installation.
This year's feature film has been sourced from the Sierra Club, America's largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization, with more than 3 million members and supporters. In addition to helping people from all backgrounds explore nature and our outdoor heritage, the Sierra Club works to promote clean energy, safeguard the health of our communities, protect wildlife, and preserve our remaining wild places through grassroots activism, public education, lobbying, and legal action. Climate of Trust
The short film being shown this year comes to us by way of a recommendation of the students of the Environmental Club at West Morris Mendham High School. Climate of Trust is a short film produced by Our Children's Trust which tells of unprecedented legal actions took place across the United States. In May of 2011 - youth from around the country were taking their governments to court for failure to protect their atmosphere for future generations. The basis of their legal actions was the Public Trust Doctrine. "A Climate of TRUST" is a story about the scientists who developed the scientific prescriptions needed for a climate recovery plan, the attorney who figured out how to apply the Public Trust Doctrine to the atmosphere, and one of the attorneys who is supporting these youth in court.
Our Children's Trust elevates the voice of youth to secure the legal right to a stable climate and healthy atmosphere for the benefit of all present and future generations. Through their programs, youth participate in advocacy, public education and civic engagement to ensure the viability of all natural systems in accordance with science.
Following the feature film, audience members will have an opportunity for questions and deeper discussion with a representative from the New Jersey Clean Energy program. This program promotes increased energy efficiency and the use of clean, renewable sources of energy including solar, wind, geothermal, and sustainable biomass.
