Description
Two new life-sized fossil casts are being added to the exhibition, “Written in the Rocks: Fossil Tales of New Jersey.” New Jersey’s state dinosaur, Hadrosaurus foulkii, and Mosasaurus maximus, a 50-foot marine reptile discovered in southern New Jersey, will join the Dryptosaurus aquilunguis on display in the exhibition. These new mounts will be on long-term view thanks to support from NJM Insurance Group and the New Jersey State Museum Foundation. The 50-foot Mosasaurus will be suspended from the ceiling in a swimming pose, adding to its dramatic presence in the exhibition. The Hadrosaurus, which will stand 25-feet long and 10-feet high, will dominate an area on the right side of the exhibition. To install the new specimens, the Natural History Hall will be closed to the public, March 26 through April 28, 2018. The closure includes the Discovery Den area and the Paleo Lab. The revamped exhibition will re-open to the public on Sunday, April 29, 2018.
