Morven Revealed: Untold Stories from New Jersey’s Most Historic Home

What do George Washington, Grace Kelly and Buzz Aldrin have in common? They were all guests at Morven, a home that has played a role in the history of New Jersey and the nation for more than 200 years.

Morven Museum & Garden presents a special exhibition “Morven Revealed: Untold Stories from New Jersey’s Most Historic Home,” on view from Friday, April 26, 2024, through Sunday, March 2, 2025. This new exhibition will shed light on lesser known stories of this historic home and its residents.

As Morven celebrates its 20th anniversary as a museum, dig into their collections and commemorate the site’s unique past. You’ll see rarely exhibited objects and newly discovered photographs about American life: childhood, hosting guests, pets, fashion, and more. Find out what it was like to be a child in a bustling historic home. How did different residents celebrate holidays? What were the names of the dogs and cats that lived at Morven? What did Morven look like when the Governors called it home?

On Thursday, April 25, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Morven Members are invited to join the Opening Reception. This free evening allows invited guests to mingle, connect and view the special exhibition before it opens to the public the following day. Take a journey through Morven’s recent past on Wednesday, May 1, at 6:30 pm with From “Mansion to Museum: A Panel Discussion,” featuring speakers, from both private and public spheres, who were essential to preserving and interpreting Morven as an educational space for generations of New Jerseyans to come. This program is hybrid, offering virtual and in-person options to attend.

On Sunday, May 19, at 1 pm, explore Princeton’s Mercer Hill neighborhood and the Stockton family’s fascinating history with a special Discovering Princeton at Morven Walking Tour led by the authors of Discovering Princeton: A Photographic Guide with Five Walking Tours. This 90-minute tour is offered in-person only, and space is limited to 25 participants.
