The Naturalists at the Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center are seeking adult and senior holiday revelers to join them on a day trip to the New York Botanical Garden Holiday Train Show on Thursday, December 6, 2018. The final Garden Discovery Trip of 2018 will take a group to the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory which has been transformed into a holiday wonderland with model trains traveling around and through New York City landmarks made of natural materials including plant parts, nuts, bark, seed pods, and leaves. The participants will embark from the Environmental Education Center, 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge on Thursday, December 6 at 9:00 A.M., returning by 5:00 P.M. Fee is $60 per adult and $50 per senior. Van transportation, admission fees, and all interpretation included. Pre-registration required. The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center is nestled within the western portion of the Great Swamp Basin of the Passaic River. The wide variety of habitats provide homes for diverse plant and animal populations in this environmentally sensitive park. All are within walking distance of the multi-faceted building. An environmentally-based library is located within the Center itself.. “The Great Swamp Experience” on the lower level at the EEC features interactive displays, vignettes, taxidermy, and archeological artifacts highlighting the history and ecology of the Great Swamp.
