Hoboken Art Month

The Hoboken Business Alliance (HBA) and the City of Hoboken announced the return of Hoboken Art Month, a month-long citywide celebration of arts, culture, and community spirit in the Mile Square City, created in collaboration with the City’s Office of Cultural Affairs.

Back for its second year, the initiative will run for five weeks from September 28 to November 3, spotlighting local artists, creative talent, and arts-based businesses that enrich Hoboken’s vibrant cultural landscape.

Hoboken Art Month will fill the city with free, interactive events including live performances, exhibitions, workshops, and installations, making art accessible in everyday spaces.

Highlights will include:

Storefront Art Walk (Sept. 29 – Nov. 3): Art will be displayed in the windows of businesses throughout Hoboken, with an opening party on Oct. 3. Enjoy a self-guided tour any time or join a docent-led tour on Oct. 11, curated by Main Street Pops.

Storefront Art Walk Opening Party (Oct. 3 from 5-8 pm): Urban Arts and local artists Brittany Vogel, Jamie Pomeranz, and Mike Harold AKA “Mike Harold Chalkman” will create custom works of chalk art, and to celebrate the Storefront Art Walk, with participants invited to decorate Washington St. with a mini–Chalk Fest.

Storefront Art Walk Docent-Led Tour (Oct. 11 at 11am, begins at 1002 Washington Street and ends at 1316 Washington Street): Main Street Pops will host a docent-led art walk tour of the art in the windows with local artist Brittany Vogel. Register here.

Jazz on the Hudson (Oct. 9 from 7-9pm, Sinatra Park Amphitheater): Allyson Briggs will lead her own retro jazz band, Fleur Seule, with elegance and style in a performance of jazz standards and newfound treasures, including a lost gem about Hoboken earning a reputation as “The Glamour Girl of Jazz,” since her explosion onto the New York jazz scene over a decade ago, she has become one of the most sought-after vocalists and bandleaders today, with hundreds of public concerts and private events per year.

Ricardo Roig Presents Public Print Event (Oct. 11 from 11am-1pm, 252 1st St.): Ricardo Roig, full time professional local fine artist and owner of Roig Collection Art Gallery in Hoboken since 2015, invites the public and children of all ages to a public print event where participating guests will become artists as they assemble their paper cuts and squeegee their own hand-cut print on paper with Roig’s guidance. Little City Storytelling Event (Oct. 22 at 7pm, Little City Books): Seasoned teacher Adam Wade, who has helped over 3,500 students with their own stories in his many 6-week Storytelling Classes at NYC’s Magnet Theater, will host a storytelling event at Little City Books. Storefront Lace Exhibit (Sept. 28 – Nov. 2, Kung Fu Tea): The Stevens Institute of Technology Samuel C. Williams Library will curate a storefront exhibit about the history of embroidery and lace in Hudson County, installed in the window of Kung Fu Tea.

Hocus Pocus Screening (Oct. 24 at 7pm, ResilienCity Park): An outdoor screening of Hocus Pocus, the 1993 American fantasy horror comedy film, right before Halloween. Participants are encouraged to bring an already decorated pumpkin to compete in a “Best Pumpkin Art” contest. Winners will receive gift cards to local businesses.

Hoboken Gallery Tour (Nov. 2 from 12pm-6pm): The annual Hoboken Artists’ Studio Tour is a self-guided walking tour of art studios otherwise not open to the public.
