Westfield Garden State Plaza and the Paramus Public Library are co-hosting the Bergen County “Unplugged” Reading Challenge to encourage a love of reading and promote literacy among local elementary-school-aged children.

Children participating in the challenge will have the ability to log the number of minutes they read per day through the library’s Beanstack website or mobile app for the chance to win exciting prizes.

The challenge kicks off with a celebration and sign-ups at Westfield Garden State Plaza on Saturday, January 18, from 1:30-3 pm. Festivities will be held in the Family Court located on level 1 near Planet Playskool and will include registration activation in addition to family-friendly activities, including storytime, a bookmark craft, meet and greet with popular children’s book character Pete the Cat, and refreshments.

The first 500 readers who log at least 100 minutes will earn a $15 gift card for Planet Playskool valid towards the price of admission to the family entertainment center or merchandise equivalent in the retail store. The first 50 readers who log 500 minutes will be awarded a gift certificate for a pair of Kid’s Crocs to be redeemed at the Westfield Garden State Plaza location.

Prizes will be presented to challenge winners at a celebration held at Westfield Garden State Plaza on Saturday, February 15. During the closing celebration, Westfield Garden State Plaza will present the Paramus Public Library with a donation to support enhancements to children’s programming.
