Part 1: Everything A Song Needs
You will learn about our signature formula for constructing a well written song. We will break down the individual elements of a song and explain the important role each part plays. We will provide a clear overview on how to create the following song components: the topic and lyrics, chord progressions and melody, the song form, arrangement, and production quality.
Wednesday May 27th
Part 2: Song Topic & Lyrics
We will answer the question that many songwriters ask themselves: What should I write about? To aide in this thematic quest, we will discuss what topics are relatable to listeners and how to brainstorm song ideas. From there, we will review the basics of lyric rhyme schemes and teach students how to give their lyrics a catchy rhythmic flow. Lastly, our songwriters will learn the role that lyrics play within song sections like the Verse and Chorus
Wednesday June 3rd
Part 3: Chord Progressions & Song Form
The backbone of every song is the chord progression. Students will learn how to select chord progressions that match their song topics and use these progressions to drive the overall mood and feel of their tunes. We will also lead students in a discussion about basic song sections like the verse, chorus, and bridge, and give them ideas on how to use different chord progressions to keep their song interesting through the various parts of their song.
