Join Eliza and Erik Lichack at 2 pm in the state historic 1752 Steuben House for a historical presentation to celebrate Women’s History Month. The program includes a demonstration of the lady’s toilette, discussing cosmetics, hair and clothing, followed by musical entertainment featuring female composers and performers of the 18th century.
On display in the Steuben House will be new exhibits including selections from the society’s girl’s sampler and needlework collection. Revolutionary War and other Bergen County artifacts from their extensive collection are also on exhibit.
Watch basket weaving and sewing demos by ladies from the 18th century throughout the day.
Take a peek at the treasures in the gift shop while you enjoy seasonal refreshments which will be available for purchase inside the tavern.
Don’t forget to visit the society’s authentic Jersey Dutch out-kitchen where interpreters will be preparing a hot milk cake, sorghum cookies, berry cobbler and rice pudding using African American recipes and recipes from the 1886 Suffrage Cookbook.
Activities for families include the society’s QR Code cell phone-based scavenger hunt.
