Holmstead School …the right fit for bright teens The year was 1970. The place was Ridgewood, N.J. Four girls from a small group home joined five other students and three teachers in a church basement, and Holmstead School was born. Although our location changed and enrollment and staff increased, the core values and original mission of our school remain the same today. Regardless of societal pressures or technological advances, today’s students are still treated with the same kindness, individual attention and respect that have always made this program unique. Holmstead School provides an educational and therapeutic atmosphere which emphasizes an innovative and flexible program for adolescents who need to be challenged in order to change their motivation and performance. Students between the ages of 13 and 18, in grades 8 through 12, who have experienced anxiety, depression, school phobia, learning problems, anger management or risk-taking choices find academic success and behavioral growth. With an equally balanced male/female teaching and clinical staff, the needs of our population (1/2 boys, 1/2 girls), can be addressed both in and out of the classroom. We celebrate staff commitment to our mission; longevity at Holmstead is more than double the average in this challenging field. Classification by the public school child study team precedes an on-site interview. Holmstead staff…applying our skills today to ensure your teen’s tomorrow.
