Do You Bail Out Your Kid at School?

One principal is asking parents to stop coming to their kids’ rescue when they forget stuff

What do you do when your kid forgets his lunch or homework? If you’re out the door minutes after he calls, this high school principal says you’re making a mistake.

Principal Steve Straessle of Catholic High School for Boys in Little Rock, AR has received some serious backlash for posting this sign on the front door of the school:

The sign reads: “If you are dropping off your son’s forgotten lunch, books, homework, equipment, etc., please TURN AROUND and exit the building. Your son will learn to problem-solve in your absence.”

The Catholic High School for Boys posted a photo of the sign on its Facebook page with the caption “Welcome to Catholic High. We teach reading, writing, arithmetic and problem-solving.” The post is going viral on social media.

Many parents commend the principal’s actions, saying kids will learn Mom and Dad won’t always be there to bail them out. Others feel it’s unnecessarily harsh. If a student has no lunch, why wouldn’t you drop it off, they argue.

Do you save your kids in situations like these? Are you willing to let them face consequences of not turning in homework for the sake of problem-solving and learning responsibility? Tell us in the comments!
