Columbus Day is Monday, October 14, and there are events all weekend long.
In New Jersey, enjoy one these weekend parades:
Saturday, October 12:
Jersey City Columbus Day Parade starts at 1:00pm at 6th & Newark, goes east to Grove Street, right on Grove and comes to an end at City Hall with a street fair celebration for kids of all ages.
Sunday, October 13:
Morris County Columbus Day Parade starts at 2:00pm at the East Hanover Firehouse (323 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover) and ends at Lurker Park (609 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover) where there will be food, rides and games for the whole family until 6:00pm.
There's also a Columbus Day craft at Imagine That!!! Visit this kid-friendly museum from 10:30am to 5:00pm on Saturday, October 13 or Sunday, October 14 and create a boat in honor of the one sailed by Columbus back in 1492. Free with museum admission. 4 Vreeland Road, Florham Park.
Or, head into Manhattan on Monday, October 14 for the NYC Columbus Day Parade (11:30am to 3:00pm) which features floats, musical performances and general merriment. Parade starts at 44th and Fifth Avenue and continues up to 72nd Street and Fifth Avenue.
