Want to host a summertime soiree but feeling the need to break away from the backyard BBQ? Class up your summer with these uniquely chic ideas and (wood) piles of fun!
The Look
Decorate your casually chic backyard party with versatile mason jars! Try these creative ideas:
Lanterns: Create a stunning set of lanterns by weaving string lights through your mason jars. Hang them around your yard for a classy summer feel!
Decorative Flourishes: Hang mason jar vases from your garage and fence to create a lovely feel, and/or house your favorite summer flowers in mason jars on tabletops.
Memory Jar: Encourage your guests to sign blank puzzle piece—just their name or their favorite summertime memory—and place them into a mason jar. Complete the puzzle and frame it; you'll treasure it forever!
The Eats
Create an experience that will set your party apart from the typical “backyard barbeque.” Set up a taco buffet, and use mason jars to house all of your fixins’! It’s simple and manageable, and your guests will love it!
The Fun
Soak up the sun with innovative outdoor games! Make Giant Jenga using 2×4’s cut to approximately 10 ½” pieces. Once you’ve got 54 blocks, your guests will have hours of fun!
Outdoor Twister is another simple favorite. Cut out a circle in a pizza box and recreate the game on your lawn with temporary spray paint. No spinner? No problem! Use colored paint chips from your local hardware store, and make enough for every command (i.e. Red Chip, Hand-Right, etc.). Put the commands in a mason jar for your guests to draw from!
Your guests will want s’more of your outdoor s’mores bar! Use mason jars to hold the ingredients, and set up a fire pit where your guests can enjoy their favorite summer treat.
The Favors
What is summer without the glow of sparklers? Setting out mason jars full of sparklers for the taking is sure to be a hit with your guests! As the sun goes down, the sky (and your guests' faces) will light up.
For another unique, and on-theme, party favor, fill mini jars with your favorite candy for a simple favor that everybody will love!
If you've run out of jars, or want to incorporate another "element," also try decorating simple paper bags with handmade labels, and add candy.
